Critical Hearing on Wolves January 28th, 2014

Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.” - Martin Luther King, Jr. Dear friend of the wolf, On the day celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we not only celebrate an extraordinary man’s message of love, equality and a better world; we celebrate all those courageous enough to follow in his footsteps and not look the other way when faced with the hardships of those they have the power to help. You have the power to help: if even one-quarter of the people on this mailing list were willing to take one day of their year to meet with their representatives – to speak up for the wolf and demand changes – there would likely be no wolf hunting next year. Below are two critical opportunities to do what’s right for the wolves of Minnesota: YOU CAN HELP: JANUARY 28 On January 28th, the Environmental and Natural Resource Policy committee will hold an informational hearing on Wolf Management by the State of Minnesota. WHY IT’S IMPORTANT At this hearing, we can show legislators that we do not agree with the recreational wolf hunt. In two seasons, spanning just 14 months; 650 wolves were killed for sport. YOU CAN HELP: February 27th is Wolf Day at the Capitol When the 2014 legislative session kicks off the last week in February, we’ll be there. We intend to make legislators feel the wolf’s presence by organizing an all-day event with hundreds of wolf advocates from across the state. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with their legislators, and attend an organized rally in the Capitol Rotunda. WHY IT’S IMPORTANT For Minnesotans that care about the wolf – like you – this event is the best opportunity in 2014 to persuade elected officials to make changes to wolf management policy, including suspending the recreational hunt. Over the next several weeks, we will be contacting Minnesota-based wolf supporters via email and phone calls, asking for their help and their commitment to participate in Wolf Day.
