WI’s third wolf hunt has become a debauchery in excessive indulgence being run by Cathy Stepp head of the WDNR. Wolves a once endangered species have become the targets of wolf hater’s such as Ted Nugent. It’s no wonder why a group called Great Lakes Wolf Patrol is here to monitor WI’s controversial wolf hunt.

The first week into the WI wolf hunt found this blogger in the north woods observing the work of Rod Coronado’s Great Lakes Wolf Patrol http://wolvesofdouglascountywisconsin.com/2014/10/20/wolf-patrol-monitors-wi-wolf-hunt-eyewitness-report-by-rachel-tilseth/

GLWP attracted the attention of several journalist and even a Documentary Film maker.
Here’s an article link on GLWP written by Ryan Mathews one of the journalists http://www.lakelandtimes.com/main.asp?SectionID=13&SubSectionID=13&ArticleID=22454

This controversial WI wolf hunt caught the attention of many media representatives, including Spencer Chumbley, who is a Documentary Producer & Cinematographer, based out of Washington, DC. His article regarding the WI hunt was posted on the international news site, VICE News, read it here https://news.vice.com/article/animal-rights-activists-target-wisconsins-annual-grey-wolf-hunt
Apparently the WDNR Wardens were out monitoring GLWP.

I spoke with David MacFarland WDNR’s carnivore specialist and he said, “WDNR wardens did not find any problems with GLWP.”

GLWP’s ethical behavior is confirmed in an article written by Paul Smith an outdoor writer for Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, “As of Wednesday, the wolf patrol reported no violations that resulted in citations, according to DNR sources. Its members also were not involved in any violent confrontations with the public.” http://www.jsonline.com/sports/outdoors/wisconsin-wolf-hunt-snags-attention-b99376125z1-280140242.html?ipad=y

Even the public weighed in on GLWP monitoring the Wolf Hunt.

Rose Lynd told a TV reporter, “They say it’s a tradition in Wisconsin…Rose Lynd said. “It’s wrong, it’s torture. Right now they have a wolf patrol out monitoring the wolf hunt. And they have seen traps set. The trappers are going 36 hours and more and not checking on them. So if there is a wolf in there, it’s suffering all that time.” http://www.wsaw.com/home/headlines/2014-W-279994832.html?device=tablet&

Great Lakes Wolf Patrol (GLWP) monitored WI’s third wolf hunt where the results are in GLWP Media Release here http://wolfpatrol.org/

“Our conclusion is that Wisconsin’s 2014 recreational wolf hunt is violating not only the rules of fair chase and ethical hunting, but more importantly, the two principles of the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation; that fish and wildlife are for the enjoyment of all citizens, and should be managed such that they are available at optimum population levels forever. For the above reasons, Great Lakes Wolf Patrol calls on not only Wisconsin citizens, but all wildlife-loving Americans, to demand: A ban on all wolf trapping on public lands…”

WI’s third wolf hunt has many problems that need to be addressed such as wolf management zones going over the kill quotas. Zone 1 went over by almost half the kill quota before WDNR caught it and closed the zone. On Tuesday I asked MacFarland what will be done about zones going over the limits. MacFarland said, “That is yet to be determined by administration.”

It’s clear to this blogger that Cathy Stepp’s (head WDNR) new WDNR has created a climate of hostility towards WI wild wolves. Stepp continues to allow fringe anti wolf hunters to run and shape WI wolf management policies. This is why citizen groups like GLWP are monitoring WI’s third Wolf hunt to expose these problems.

It’s apparent WI needs an independent group to monitor this wolf hunt. Look at one extremist fringe hunter Ted Nugent, who openly called for WI wolf hunters to poach wolves.

“WISCONSIN Spirit BloodBrothers the Weisner family trapped this stunning wolf. Though no state has issued an adeqaute number of wolf tags, believe when I tell you that certain WE THE PEOPLE in touch caring Americans are killing MANY MANY more wolves than the numbnut corrupt dishonest PC government thugs allow. Kill as many as you can real conservationists. The wolf population is irresponsibly & dangerously out of control. Wolf jackets ROCK!!” Said Ted Nugent on his Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/tednugent?ref=ts&fref=ts

Ted Nugent’s call to poach wolves isn’t sitting well with WI residents who have made it clear they want wolves in a recent WDNR wolf attitude survey http://wolvesofdouglascountywisconsin.com/2014/08/28/8281wdnr-wolf-survey-results-the-good-bad-and-the-ugly-by-rachel-tilseth/
I am betting that the majority of WI’s ethical hunters won’t participate in Ted Nugent’s fringe hunting poachers club!

Here are the wolf kill numbers as of today, October 23, 2014

Zone Quota Harvest Zone Status
1 32 36 Closed
2 15 29 Closed
3 40 8 Open
4 8 5 Closed
5 20 18 Closed
6 35 7 Open
Total150 total killed 103 from WDNR’s website http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/hunt/wolf.html
I’ve said it before and will say it again that Stepp’s WDNR is a dysfunction Junction.
I think Stepp took hunting lessons from Nugent’s fringe hunting poacher’s club.
