2 OR wolves move out of home packs to new sites
As
the number of Oregon’s wolves continues to grow and expand their range,
the Department of Fish and Wildlife has designated two new Areas of
Known Wolf Activity (AKWA). The designations are given where and when wolves repeatedly use an area over time and become established. To help minimize potential wolf-livestock conflict, ranchers are encouraged to use preventive measures within designated AKWAs.
The new areas are a result of two radio-collared wolves being tracked from their home packs to new home ranges. OR25,
originally from the Imnaha Pack, traveled through the Columbia Basin,
southern Blue Mountains, and northern and central Cascade Range and
since May has been in the Klamath County area east of Chiloquin. OR30,
originally from the Mt. Emily pack, crossed Interstate 84 and has been a
resident since May in the Starkey and Ukiah wildlife management units
between Ukiah and La Grande in Union County.
